The musical is about my life after coming home from the hospital with Traumatic Brain Injury...
Tell us about yourself and your most current project/s?
Not sure what about myself you want. Current writing projects are putting my musical together and finding a stage to have it: www.selfagain.net is my story and musical website. I am also writing a drama, from the survivors voice, about rape trafficking.
Where did the inspiration/idea come for this for this project?
The musical is about my life after coming home from the hospital with Traumatic Brain Injury and Retrograde Amnesia. The other project is inspired by my best friend, Chloe Collins, who was trafficked by her parents from birth to college. Her survivor story needs to be heard. She’s my muse for this.
What does the writing process look like for you?
I write when I have cognitive and/or physical energy. I sit wherever I am comfortable at home. I don’t write anywhere outside of my house.
How do you handle writer’s block?
I just let it slide until I feel like writing.
How do you feed your creativity when feeling drained?
I rest.
What advice would you give writers’ who feel stuck or uninspired?
Get out of your head, stop trying to please whoever is giving you negativity and write for you.
Have you ever thought about giving up writing? If so, what pulled you back?
No, it’s my hobby to do whenever. I stopped writing a children’s book series, I self publish on Amazon, because I was spending more than I was making sales from the series. Early Reader age pug series. I don’t keep money from any of the books. I donate 100% of the proceeds to certain charities. The charity is on the beginning page of what book and what charity its going to.
How do you keep your voice or ideas fresh over time?
Looking at things from different angles or point of views.
What do you wish more people understood about the creative process?
Be confident about what you write. Get feedback from people you know and trust then maybe people with an expertise in the subject or genre you are writing.
What is the most honest thing you’ve ever written - and did it scare you?
My musical book and lyrics and the rape trafficking play. No it didn’t scare me. I cried more.
